ESB Golden Geisha is now owned by Michelle and Sophia Landy.
Soph is doing a super job, jumping her clear around her first 4* track and placing 8th at Wandin HT, 2019.
The planning and effort to breed this lovely mare took many years but I’m so glad that it is working and that I made the decision to take her out of the broodmare paddock after her first foal and start her under saddle in 2014.
She was offered to several competition riders and finally purchased by Sophia and Michelle Landy in 2017. Full credit goes to Sophia for believing in her potential and creating such a successful partnership with her.
The rest of her breeding story is at the bottom of this page.

The breeders story goes like
this. Firstly, I bred her sire ESB
Golden Knight (TB) which took some doing. Sue Byers (daughter of Max) and I
went to Glenormiston Ag College together. Her family owned and ran Naring Lodge
Stud who stood Brilliant Invader (TB). He was the sire of Ready Teddy.
Ready Teddy (1987 – 23 April 2011) was an eventing horse competitively ridden by New Zealand equestrian Blyth
Tait. Together the pair
competed in three Olympics, winning gold at the 1996 Summer Games, and took two golds at the 1998 World Equestrian Games. He was the first eventing horse to win individual gold at
both an Olympic Games and a World Equestrian Games.
In 1996, Sue informed me that
this lovely horse was about to be sold to New Zealand and I realised what a
great loss this would be to Australian breeders. After much thought, I shared
this information with Howard Clark from Koyuna Stud. Full credit to him that he found
the funds to purchase him and stand him at stud.
I then chose to breed my mare, Annies Reward (TB by Let’s Get Physical) the dam of seven foals including ESB Irish Denial 2* to him and produced ESB Golden Knight.(GK) in 1999. He sired 18 foals including ESB Golden Zone who is also owned by Sophia.

The next step was to breed Geisha’s
dam, ESB Irish Secret. I
purchased her dam, Lady Lovat (TB) when she was 21 years old because she was
the dam of WS Scandal who had sold for $1.6 million after competing
successfully with Chris Chugg.
After unsuccessful attempts
to breed with her naturally, I decided to invest in doing embryo transfer with ESB
Irish Edition (Ditto) who was by ESB
Irish Enough. This was a saga in itself as Ditto was close to 18hh and
unbroken due to an injury, so collecting semen from him was quite a circus!
Many thanks go to Simon Robinson (Victorian Equine Group) for his patience and expertise in achieving this successful outcome and producing two live foals from the one flush in 2002.

And so, these two ESB parents (ESB Golden Knight x ESB Irish Secret) produced two lovely fillies before they died, one of which is ESB Golden Geisha. I am so thrilled to see her achieving such success and so grateful to Sophia Landy for realising her legacy. I am sure that they will continue to scale the ranks and I wish them all the best for the future.
